We have been able to rent land for row crop production partnering with AJ’s parents' row crop operation. His folks have always been progressive with their openness to different farming practices. As an example, we have been utilizing cover crops to improve our soil health and have transitioned from conventional tillage to a strip-till/no-till system. While we continue to read and learn, the most influential life-changing book that started us down this less-than-conventional path, was Gabe Brown's From Dirt to Soil. Through this and similar inspirations and training, our goal is to pursue regenerative changes to our farm each year in order to improve - not just sustain - soil health via use of biodiversity (enter cows, among other species!) to ultimately provide more nutrient-dense food for our family and our community.
